Dumpling squid, Southern bobtail squid or Euprymna tasmanica, are nocturnal by nature.
These stunning little creatures have a life span of 5-8 months only & grow to a maximum length of 7 cm. They live in the shallow temperate coastal waters of southern Australia. Preferring to live in seagrass beds or areas with soft silty bottoms. It takes a keen eye to spot them with their brilliant camouflage capabilities & relatively small size. As divers we seldom encounter them even on night dives. Such a nice surprise when we do though… |
